Markham is a natural division of Zones 5 and 7. The carve out to remove PHE/MS from Zone 5 and the Hillcrest neighborhood makes no sense.

The School Board continues to send out surveys for feedback to fulfill their requirement, but does not give us sufficient background information on the pros and cons and the impact of these plans. I have little confidence our feedback will make any real difference until you provide needed info

I would like to know the affects of the zoning for the children that live in different cities other than Little Rock but attending L.R.S.D?
Marie Mainard-O'Connell
I agree with previous comments that this map is insufficient; voters need to see which Voter Districts correspond with current Student Attendance Zones. Parents need to be able to see which school zones are represented by which Board Member Districts. For that reason, my opinion is negative.

Add PHE and PHMS to distract 5.
Noelle Burns
Add Pulaski Heights Elementary and Middle school to distract 5. That makes zero sense to draw a random line into a neighborhood.
Erin O'Leary Morgan
The Zone 5 board member needs to represent PHE & PHM. The carve out excluding these schools makes no sense.
Don Martin
If I read this correctly, both the middle and high schools for kids in this area are outside of the proposed zone under our representative. Is that accurate? Also, what is the reason for the inclusion of district 6 immediately beside Hall High, which is in a different district?

Hello ,
I just wanted to ask who is the board member for my area and how he’s helpful for my kids schooling needs. How to contact him directly. What is the specific duties of this district distributions.
L
The main issue that I can see based on the district zones and everyone comments is how does this effect current student. Will they have to change school based on the new zones or can they stay? If students can stay where they currently are I changes in district should not be a big issue.

Thanks to Courtney Fose for clarifying that this map is for the newly proposed School Board Member Zones, and is NOT a map for student attendance zones. Thank you for clarifying! :)

We have target population goals for a reason. This zone is 972 over, and the zone next to it is 759 under. We should fix that.
Megan Prettyman Halford
Why are the only demo groups White, Black, Asian, and Other. Our schools have a large Hispanic population. Those demographics NEED to be taken into account to make sure that those students are represented on the board. There is no majority Hispanic zone currently proposed, and there should be
Laura Danforth
One more thought: Our zone (7) is 3.45% over target enrollment. Zone 5 (on the edge of zone 7) is -2.93% UNDER target enrollment. Expanding zone 7 so that zone 7 kids can access PHE/PHMS is the equitable move.
Megan Prettyman Halford
I don't understand the numbering choices. If we are completely changing the zoning map, make the numbers make sense throughout. As you go from left to right the numbers should increase. But here you have Zone 1 next to 4 and 5 with zones 2 and 3 at the bottom of the map.
Laura Danforth
Zone 7 Parent here! Fully support new zones! The reason that PHE and PHMS are even in Zone 5 is because of redlining. You can see this explicitly when you look at racial makeup of Zone5 vs Zone7. Zone 7 deserves to be able to access PHE/PHMS.
LRSD Board Member Anna Strong
The lines in the Heights/Cammack between zone 5 and zone 1 are not natural divisions. Jefferson Elementary's school zone is split between two board members with the building in Zone 1. The population count between zone 1 and zone 5 could be evened out by tweaking this to divide along major roads.
LRSD Board Member Anna Strong
Zone 5 is less socioeconomically diverse that it was in previous maps. Extending the zone south of Markham would help even out population variances and diversify the voter base in this area.
LRSD Board Member Anna Strong
I generally support this map but wish we had an overlay of school zones to help align school communities and board zones. Suggested changes:
Markham St is a natural division for a board zone in E. Little Rock. The Zone 5 carve out from Pine to Colonial, Lee to Markham should be in Zone 5, not 7.
Anne Santifer
District 1 has 1600 more kids than district 5, splitting up Hillcrest (that has an active and dedicated residents association) into two zones creates confusion and duplicative work. Add Pulaski Height Elem and Middle to district 5, it will more evenly distribute kids
Robert Santifer
Our family has had a child at either PHMS or PHE for over a decade. We walk our children there until they are old enough to walk themselves. This carve out does not represent the sense of community the neighborhood has for the school.
Jeremiah Wood
Zone 5 is under the target. Zone 7 is over. Put the carve out from Markham up to Lee and from Palm to Colonial Court into Zone 5 from Zone 7. Looks like this would also help the school zoning for PHE/PHMS match up more closely to the LRSD Board zone.
Alex Vernon
Splitting the current PHE/PHMS zone between districts 5 and 7 is crazy. People who live literally next door to the school will be zoned elsewhere. These are our neighbors and our community; PHE/PHMS are a major reason people choose to live here.
Amanda Orcutt
Do not carve out PHE/MS from the rest of the neighborhood. Doesn't make sense to break up our neighborhood into two districts. This creates confusion and duplication of efforts. District 1 as drawn has 1,600 more kids than district 5. PHE/MS could be added to district 5 and still hit target numbers
Tina Cosgrove
Large population of students and potential students live in this area. I also think this is an area that we need to draw students from.
KENNETH HOBBS JR
I would balance out the zones that are over/under the target number.
Troy Hill
Do the school zones matchup with the board voting zones🤔
Greg Adams
Zone 1 has an excess and Zone 4 is under and they border one another. Tweaking the border between could help the balance. A similar dynamic exists with Zone 7 (excess) and Zone 5 (under) and they share a border with could be adjusted to help balance.
Natalie Burr
The carve out from Pine (west) to Colonial (east) and Lee (north) to Markham (south) should be in Zone 5. This will ensure that Pulaski Heights Elementary is represented by the board member who represents most of its attendance zone residents.
Jim Ross
Zone 1 has way too many people in it and is not acceptable especially since zones 3 and 4 are so far off the goal. These lines need to be redrawn to make them closer to the ideal number.
Jim Ross
Zone 5 is short 759 people and the zone connected to it, zone 7, has 892 people over the goal. I would recommend following the current zone line and dropping Zone 5 down to include Stephens Elementary area. It would fix the population disparity and add more African American voters to zone 5.
Linda K. Smith
Like the borders of District 1 and how it keeps neighborhoods together.
Linda K Smith
New districts are fine with me. Glad to see this grouping of neighborhoods.
Courtney Fose
The messaging hasn't been clear. In order to be a member of the board for a particular zone requires that the person lives within the zone on this new map. This does not change which school children are zoned to attend. People are stressing out and communication is needed to reduce confusion.
T.Acklin
It looks as though the new zone for my area would change schools my kids have attended since Pre-k. Not to mention that how we have been looking forward to my oldest starting at Pinnacle View Middle. If this is changed, we would be disappointed and would have to consider other options.
Elizabeth Henry-McKeever
The deviations were a lot smaller in 2021 - why larger now? Barring compelling demographic reasons, the Zone 1 / Zone 4 boundary should omit the Rainwood Cove cut out, and extend to the Rahling / Hinson intersection. This would reduce the overage in Zone 1 and add needed population to Zone 4.
Brittany Pree
Does this affect the new students? We are excited about attending Pulaski Heights and like the current school zone and would be zoned elsewhere if this change would take place. We would not be happy with that.
Eric Moak
It's a terrible idea to move Pulaski Heights Elementary and Middle School out of district 5. It's a solid part of the Hillcrest neighborhood on all sides. It's doesn't make any sense to cut it out of the local community. It's within easy walking distance for a large number of Hillcrest families.
Katherine Zach
It doesn't make sense that parts of the Villages of Wellington streets are in one district, and the other parts of the streets are in a different district.
Eugene Krupitsky
Please see my attached comments regarding the overall approach to the zoning. As much as possible, I would highly recommend that school board zones lineup with school attendance zones and there be a similar amount of schools in each board members zone. The attached comments go into more detail.
Anne Santifer
Why is there a weird carve out from Lee to Markham that goes with district seven instead of district five? Please include PHE and PHMS which are two block from my house in the district we currently reside in,
District 5

My daughter is looking forward to attend the new high school in 2026-2027 school year. She went to Pinnacle View Middle and likes that the population of that school will not be gigantic like SW High and Central. We are zoned for the new high school. Why change this? Leave the zones where they are.
Marcus Murphy
Pinnacle view middle is what we have our sights set on. I hope we are not disappointed.
Kimberly Badejo
To be clear, this is just the zine lines for board members, not School zones, correct?
Ka R
This needs clarification, does this affect currently enrolled students or just new students?
Sheilah M Shumpert
Unless I'm missing something, I can't see what middle school each district will be assigned to. It seems like District 4 is no longer assigned to Pinnacle View. That's where I teach and where my child goes. When we moved in this house, we made sure that it was zoned for Pinnacle View.
Matthew Hartley
All of Briarwood should be part of District 5 - area code 72205. People in the community work, live, and use the district 5 businesses. Spending money on separate buses on the same street makes little sense. Several families in this area go to Fair Park, Forest Park, and Jefferson.
Kellye Leflore
My daughter has already been assigned to Pinnacle View Middle school and that’s where I would like for her to go. It’s not fair to change up the kids assignments when they’re already looking forward to being somewhere. This also will force kids out of the zones they’re already used to. It’s a no go.
Kayla Griffin
From the old map to the proposed map. I do not like it. It may impact where kids are forced to change to another school. It would be best to add new neighborhoods to existing district areas than to risk having a child losing their current assignment they have been in for years prior.
Leemee Spurlock
I don’t think it’s affected my zone much
Janie Lee
I would like for my address to be consudered in the zoning area district 7. I think the zoning was fine like it is. They are taking kids that are in the district out and pushing them into another district and that’s not fair to the kids. Please reconsider the zoning proposal
Lindsey Smith
My daughter attends Martin Luther King Magnet and loves it! The new district map, seems to change that. She is highly anxious, autistic, and made many connections with the staff, that I believe will help her to feel safe in 1st grade. We used to live off of MLK then had to move.
